Corrupt Excel Files

Recently I have been receiving a message when opening an Excel file that it is corrupt. That seems strange as the preview is showing the Excel file which suggests it was fine. It has taken a bit to work out what the problem is which is causing this but I think it is related to the length of the file path. Most of the Excel files I have been having this issue with are related to student work I am marking which has been downloaded from Moodle and is contained in a zipped folder. I have a folder structure which includes the year, course name, assignment name and marking so it does provide a long path name depending on what the student named the file as in the first place. By shortening the file name itself, I have been able to get around the ‘corrupt file’ issue to find the file will open okay.

A similar problem I have is when unzipping files downloaded from Moodle. Again the length of the file name is an issue so I now routinely edit the file name so I can remove most of the Moodle added name.

I find it frustrating that the messages produced don’t actually relate to the problem causing the issue. I suppose the easiest way would be to adjust my file structure as these issues have come about since I started using One Drive for Business.
